Travis Fimmel was born on July 15, 1979 about 40 miles outside of Echuca in Victoria, Australia to parents Chris, a cattle farmer, and Jennie, a nurse. There he grew up helping out on his parents' farm and playing sports like fishing, motorbiking, and going camping with his two older brothers, who nicknamed Travis Rangi after the cartoon because of his love for running around barefoot. After graduating at age 17, he moved to Melbourne where he attended RMIT University- first to play football and later to study project management. A broken leg soon made Travis abandon his dreams of a professional football career. Soon after, he was discovered by Matthew Anderson, a talent scout from Chadwick Model Management, while working out in a Melbourne gym. At first unsure and even embarassed, he was persuaded to join the agency.Deciding that traveling was better suited for him, he dropped out of college and, for two and a half years, toured Europe and Thailand before settling down in London, where he worked at a pub. Still not satisfied, he later decided to move to America. His first night in the States was spent in a nightclub where he spent most of his only money, $60, the last of which he spent the next morning for a cab ride. When he walked into the LA Models office, booker Paul Nelson immediately signed him to the agency. They helped him find a place to stay and gave him money while, almost instantly, Travis began to land jobs modeling for companies such as Gap and L'Oreal. He soon appeared in two music videos: Jennifer Lopez' ("I'm Real") and Janet Jackson's ("Someone To Call My Lover"), both of which he described as being a "cheesy" experience.Soon Travis' agents got wind of a new Calvin Klein campaign starting. When they suggested the opportunity to him, Travis was not too pleased with the idea of modeling underwear, but they sent his information card to Calvin Klein anyway. Along with a small group of men, Travis was chosen to appear before Calvin Klein himself for interviews. After seeing all the candidates, they chose Travis for the campaign and he soon begain appearing in his briefs on billboards in Britain and the US. One had to be taken down at a London intersection because it had become a "safety hazard" due to people slowing down to gawk at Travis' nearly-nude portrait.Throughout his modeling career, Travis has stated that his job was only that, a job, and he was only in it for the money and the travel. He has, however, wanted to remain in the entertainment business, attending acting classes with Ivanna Chubbuck . His acting skills were shown in commercials he made for the CK cologne he modeled in late 2002, Crave. Finally, in early 2003, it was announced that Travis was auditioning for both a TV series and a movie. While no more news of the movie surfaced, fans were finally rewarded with the announcment of Tarzan and Jane, a show to be aired this fall on WB, in which Travis plays the title character. His popularity has since skyrocketed, being featured in numerous magazines and interviews. He hopes to do more acting in the future, but mainly wants to move back to Australia to be with his friends and family for some much-needed relaxation.
